Thanks for the remark. It made me realise I could have added more under the chapter “What can you do to move away from this stance?”

If you find yourself in a situation where the development team is asking for a lot of detail, it is worthwhile exploring what drives this behaviour?

Experiments that you as Product Owner might try could be: connecting the development team more to the end user, rather than being the intermediairy. Try to discover what happens if we co-create the product backlog items? Work with reference PBI to assess if and where we need all that detail or avoid creating too many items at all.

As for the organization, stakeholder management is pivotal in explaining the why of emerging backlogs. Why are we doing this? what are the risks of overdetailing? make the waste we create transparent, offer small experiments to gain the trust of the environment. The work we do is not about creating stories, but rather creating value.

Though it is true that the enviroment often dictates what we do, it is also true that we can influence our enviroment.
